The 4CIG is a class 421, the CIG stood for 'Corridor brIGhton', IG being the old Telegraphic Code for Brighton in the LB&SCR days. The 'C' should be Corridor Electropneaumatic Brake, which 4CEP or Class 411 stood for. Look it up on Wikipedea as there are loads of obscure codes for the Southern Electric EMU's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_421 and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Ra ... signations
