Future Development
The D&SNGRR owns and operates four K-36 locomotives, as well as several other non-operating museum locomotives. It does not own any K-27s. The K-27 used in the virtual D&S route was donated to the project by Barry "Captain Bazza" Munro. Being of MSTS heritage, it lacks a true 3D cab, but it is otherwise fully drivable. For now the cab view is similar to what you see in MSTS when you press Shift+1. A K-36 is in the works, complete with a 3D cab, but a release date has not been established.
Also in the works are an observation gondola and a set of concession cars. Release dates TBA.
The D&SNGRR owns several parlor cars, but not the Durango. That car belongs to Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California. We'd much appreciate it if someone were to contribute a model of the Alamosa parlor coach, for example,
The closed-end coaches are repaints of a D&RGW prototype. The closed-end coaches used by the D&SNGRR are of a slightly different design.
A number of unique buildings can be seen from the tracks in downtown, real-world Durango, including the General Palmer Hotel, the Strater Hotel, and the Wells Fargo Bank. In the route, stand-in buildings are currently used in their place.
Along the route, it is our intent to replace the stand-in buildings currently used to represent the Tacoma Hydro Plant and the Cascade Canyon Pavilion (at the wye).
The virtual Silverton is a prime target for future development. Plans are to replace the buildings alongside the terminus tracks with something more closely resembling the arcade buildings that greet arriving passengers. There are a few taller buildings along the main street that we would like to add in order to develop the Silverton "skyline." Silverton would not be complete without the Silverton Northern railroad buildings behind the depot.
And finally, though we think of the D&SNGRR as a steam railroad, it also owns a few diesel locomotives. It would be great to run Hot Shot 1 or Big Al some day. And let's not forget the RGS "motors" exemplified by the famed Galloping Goose®.
